San Jose del Cabo

The refined, artistic side of Los Cabos. Cobblestone streets, world-class galleries, farm-to-table cuisine, and a colonial town square that feels a world away from the tourist strip.

About San Jose del Cabo

Founded in 1730 as a Jesuit mission, San Jose del Cabo is the quieter, more cultured twin of Cabo San Lucas. Its historic downtown is built around a charming central plaza flanked by a restored 18th-century mission church, leafy courtyards, and streets lined with bougainvillea-draped colonial buildings.

The San Jose Art District is the crown jewel, hosting Thursday evening gallery walks from November through June where dozens of galleries open their doors with wine, live music, and artist meet-and-greets. Beyond the art scene, the San Jose Estuary is a protected bird sanctuary with trails winding through mangroves down to a pristine beach. The town's organic farms and farm-to-table restaurants have made it a culinary destination in its own right.
