Baja California Sur, Mexico

East Cape

The wild, untouched coastline east of San Jose del Cabo. Dirt roads lead to world-class fishing grounds, a living coral reef, eco-lodges, and the kind of authentic Baja experience that most visitors never see.

About East Cape

The East Cape stretches north from San Jose del Cabo along the Sea of Cortez coastline, encompassing small fishing villages like Los Barriles, Buena Vista, and the protected waters around Cabo Pulmo. This is the Baja of unpaved roads, rancho-style cooking, and sunrises over empty beaches where the Sierra de la Laguna mountains meet turquoise water.

While luxury development is beginning to arrive, the East Cape remains refreshingly off-the-grid. It is one of the world's premier sport-fishing destinations, with billfish, roosterfish, and dorado running through its deep channels. Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park is the only living coral reef on the west coast of North America, and a bucket-list snorkeling and diving destination teeming with sea lions, manta rays, and schools of jacks.

What to Do on the East Cape

Sport Fishing

The East Cape is legendary for fly fishing and light-tackle sport fishing. Chase roosterfish in the surf, or head offshore for marlin, dorado, and yellowfin tuna.

Cabo Pulmo Reef

Dive or snorkel the only living coral reef system on North America's Pacific coast. Swim with sea lions, whale sharks, and massive schools of tropical fish.

Sierra de la Laguna

Hike into the cloud forests and hidden waterfalls of the Sierra de la Laguna mountains, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve rising behind the coast.

Authentic Baja

Experience small-town Mexico in Los Barriles and Buena Vista. Fresh seafood from local pangas, roadside taco stands, and warm hospitality far from the resort crowds.
